Poker is a simple game, played by complicated people! If we played the game with the cards face up, and no betting, or set bets, the game would loose its complexity, and its interest! I say a simple game, but must admit when I first started playing Poker I would have to get up at times to look at a poker machine to refresh my memory of the hand rankings! That was just the beginning of my problems! It quickly became apparent that I needed to become better at determining the playing habits of the other players! Sure having a Royal flush is a no brainer, but then they are few, and far between! If you play poker do not let your finances determine your actions! Every player has folded a winning hand at onetime or another, but when your folding because the bets are too high its time to quit! I don't care if I have to put in all my money if I believe I have the winning hand I stay! Then there's knowing when to call it quits! Some nights it’s a loose - loose proposition! Take just so much money, and if you loose it get up! I know that’s easier said than done! I can't tell you how many times I have seen a player loose their money, get up, and get more only to loose it over, and over! I have also seen a player loose their money, get more, and come out a winner, but that happens a lot less! Then there's the player that keeps getting lousy hands, and is bored! I look at the times I set out a hand, as a time to learn! How? By playing the 'what do they have' game (determining what each players has)! I hate it when I first sit down, and get a good hand, but I'm not familiar with the players! I can't tell you how many times it has cost me! How to determine what type of poker to play, Texas Hold-em, Seven card stud, Omaha… It's very simple if you feel comfortable at it do it! I must also tell you not to rush to judgment! I was initially intimidated by the play at the Texas Hold-em table, but now I hardly ever play anything else! Good luck! Hope too see you around!

Words of wisdom...

How much money do I need to play Poker?

Only what you can afford to loose! Sometimes I only play with the minimum amount required, and other times I put all my money on the table right at the start! I really don't feel it has ever made that much difference! If there is a bad beat jackpot make sure you have enough on the table so you can meet the minimum betting requirements!

Only one person is allowed to play a hand!

Only one person may play a hand! I have never encountered an exception to this rule! Make sure it is enforced by the dealer! It is always stated that only English will be spoken at the table!

Listen to what is being said!

I cannot tell you how many times a player at the table tells me what I need to know to win the hand! Sometimes it's the person setting next to me, and other times it's the player I'm worried about!
